We have learned a lot...

" We" made breakfast...a their house: they still have more gear.
Had to charge the rig by plugging it into the car...and got to meet the camp host ( lives in a BIG rig...the entire season) and learned about how a generater is actually a better idea, especially with a 75 watt solar panel on the roof ( " your battery will always be charged even when you store it 6 months...). I didn't tell him that I don't want to invest in one. I was eyeing the outhouse (...by any other name...) for reasons... known only to others who RV.

Left for our hike up to Maroon Bells...blessed by yet another excruciatingly beautiful day. Busy trail with old people, young people, little people and a few healthy dogs...we did not have the ONLY poodle ( Bo Peep, if you please) on the mountain and she is a tough 5 pounds of black fur...Tom bonded with her and caried her across river crossings. The trail may not gain incredible elevation, but is is amazingly rocky! It goes from some...to many...to ridiculous. Glad to have a walking stick. Crescent lake, at the foot of the Bells was lovely and well worth the walk. We enjoyed our lunch in the shade of the Aspens and hobbled down...the dog knew to look for shade at every opportunity. And we were treated to the most magnificent array of wildflowers I have seen in many years.

We had dinner responsibility tonight and now I know that mushrooms stuffed with Brie...delicious tho they may be...don't do well on the grill. Chicken shish ke bob turned out to Be a bit sketchy also...the southwestern salad was a hit and the walk in the National Park at dusk was lovely

Tom: "in terms of adventures...on a scale pf 1-10...this is about a... 2

Lots of stars...Very Quiet

...is not as easy as it might sound: elbows, knees, all closer together than usual...and more pointy than you would think.
Midnight "are you cold?" " no" "where's the other blanket"...on my side, of course
4 am...no bird sounds yet...
6 ish ... One bird is sounding a plaintif call
8:30... Oops, we finally slept...and Rosemary is knocking at our door...they did breakfast...good thing. They have more "ammenities" than us. I am pretty sure we will look a little less put together when we fix breakfast tomorrow! We will set an alarm...
Had a Colorado breathtakingly gorgeous hike up Hunter Creek Valley above the city of Aspen. A "pearl" that Bob knew about: even tho the road says private property, it is forest access AND you can park at the upper trailhead only if you are old or infirm...as evidenced by your Golden Eagle Senior Pass, which I just purchased this summer at The Great Sand Dunes! We saw quite a few mountain bikers on this one track trail, as well as a boatload of wildflowers and a view if Ajax and Buttermilk mountains that I have never seen. We skied that mountain my second year on skis...had NO idea it was so steep...or why we did it!

Had salads and chicken from Denver on our 3x4 table before showering in the 3 ft square space allotted to that...Tom drank coffee from a small food prep bowl because I didn't bring coffee cups...( brought wine glasses...)
Our relatively private campsite is completely surrounded by wild raspberries...that will ripen mid August.

The Aspen Music was awesome...SOOOO many young people so accomplished! It was a delight to see all the 15-20 somethings walking around with their instrument backpacks. We ate our wine and cheese sitting on the lawn outside the tent...old Aspen, young Aspen, dogs and us, all perfectly content.

Returning to our camosite Bob grilled fabulous steaks for a great late night dinner under the Milky Way

The Details...out of order

Tom: so i've discovered...you don't come up here to meet people...everyone has their own little fiefdom...
Susan: even though I packed everything in bags... And we are in a small space...I can't find half of my pajamas
Tom: do your feet hang over the mattress? Susan: yes...they must not be expecting tall people to rent these.

We are cooking cheesy eggs with lockes and cream cheese...and peaches...at Rosie and Bob's, in the AM..no one is setting an alarm...
My list of what to buy for " next time" grows

"where is...". Begins most of our sentence

Tomorrow we will hike Maroon Bells...the music this evening was great!

Have no idea if/when any of this info might go out

Everything in here is "tidy" ...but Tom has a lot of stuff on the bunk beds and just asked me for the black flashlight...

We are here!

That is really the name. Drove through Aspen in the dark...missed the turn at first pass. But the Corp of Engineers have seen others make that mistake and soon there was an easy (read: WIDE) place to turn around. Returned to where I had thought I'd seen a sign...Dark...late...pretty long, narrow road. Thank God there was a campground! Our #11...is a very skinny campsite
Bob was here to help us back up and take a wider turn (did I suggest that?) and unhook the car, level it and block the wheels (a runaway trailer is an ugly sight, I'm told . As well as being asked " is that what they gave you to do that?". Answer: yes. Since it was 10 o'clock, Bob went back to bed. We unloaded all our bags and food (bear country) and went into our new domaine to organize. First: Bathroom door is locked...closed...from the inside. Tom worked on that issue while I put everting in cupboards and the fridge. Magic: he opened the door...and then was starving. He ate a Safeway salad while I found the bottle opener and continued to put "stuff" away. Finally I finished the salad and joined him with a glass of Chardonay. When he was commenting on how "we" need to put things in cupboards and keep the surfaces neat, I explained that that was true and he was free to put anything anyplace he would like. He popped right up and asked if I needed some help...
I think we have killed all the miller moths and mosquitos that joined us ...Tom is pondering life in an RV as he shaves with cold water and I am happy iPads have their own light!!!
